Brookline Adopts Climate Action Plan Targeting Net-Zero by 2050
BROOKLINE — Brookline has formally adopted a new Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, a 10-year strategy town officials say charts a path to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The announcement anchored a busy stretch of Town Hall updates this week, including a delayed start to Town Hall's roof construction project and the full reopening of the town's public golf course.

The Town of Brookline announced adoption of its 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, described by officials as a comprehensive 10-year strategy charting the town's path to net-zero emissions by 2050. The plan was featured alongside the Town Administrator's July newsletter, which also touted the reopened Public Health Plaza, extreme-heat safety guidance, and the Recreation Department's Summer Concert Series, Yoga in the Park, and Summer Eats programs.
Separately, the Town Hall Roof Construction Project has pushed its start date back to Monday, July 20. The Department of Public Works has posted guidance for residents who need to visit Town Hall while the work is underway.
The Brookline Golf Course reopened all 18 holes and marked the occasion with a community event on July 17. The Parks and Open Space Division also announced that Lotta Bradburn Schick Park reopened to the public on July 10 following a comprehensive renovation. And the town is reminding residents that real estate and personal property tax bills, mailed June 30, are due Monday, August 3.

The Public Library of Brookline hosted "Worlds in Words," a creative writing workshop for tweens ages 10 to 13, on Saturday, July 18, part of the library's summer programming lineup.
Looking ahead, the library is teaming with Brookline's Summer Eats program for a free family concert featuring musician Matt Heaton on Tuesday, July 21, at Brookline Avenue Playground, where free breakfast and lunch are served on weekdays through August 14. On Monday, July 27, the library hosts an interactive show with magician Ed Popielarczyk, who has entertained family audiences for more than three decades.
