Brookline Adopts Climate Plan Aiming For Net-Zero By 2050
Brookline officials have adopted the town's 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, a comprehensive 10-year strategy charting a path to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The plan lays out a decade-long framework for cutting emissions and building resiliency against climate impacts across Brookline, according to the town's website. Details of the rollout were not fully specified in materials available Friday, but the plan represents one of the town's most significant long-range policy commitments this year.
The plan's release coincides with a run of summer milestones outlined in the Town Administrator's July newsletter: the municipal golf course has reopened with all 18 holes back in play, a new Public Health Plaza has opened, and the town is circulating extreme-heat safety guidance alongside the Recreation Department's Summer Concert Series, Yoga in the Park sessions and the Summer Eats Program.

The Public Library of Brookline opened its "Worlds in Words" creative writing workshop for tweens ages 10 to 13 on August 1, aiming to inspire and expand curiosity through creative writing. The Putterham branch will host a "Community Catch-up" social hour on August 6, featuring local guest speakers discussing their roles in the community.
The library is also continuing its "Plant a Seed, Read!" summer reading program with a seed-mosaic craft session presented with Hands on Nature on August 4, open to children ages five and up.
