Brookline Adopts Climate Plan Targeting Net-Zero by 2050
BROOKLINE — The Town of Brookline has adopted a new 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, a 10-year strategy charting a path to net-zero emissions by 2050, while residents also face rising parking fines and a July 20 start to Town Hall roof construction.

The town's Climate Action and Resiliency Plan is the most significant piece of town business to surface this cycle, laying out a decade-long roadmap toward net-zero emissions by mid-century. Town officials describe it as a comprehensive strategy touching energy, buildings and municipal operations.
Elsewhere at Town Hall, construction on the building's roof is now set to begin Monday, July 20, after a delayed start; the town has posted guidance for residents who need to visit Town Hall during the work. Real estate and personal property tax bills, mailed June 30, are due Monday, August 3. And the Parks and Open Space Division announced that Lotta Bradburn Schick Park reopened to the public July 10 following a full renovation, while the Brookline Golf Course reopened all 18 holes and marked the occasion with a community event on July 17.

A Brookline storyteller is turning personal memories of the town into a digital archive with a new project called "Entering Brookline," sponsored by the Brookline Commission for the Arts and a state humanities partner. The project invites residents to contribute recollections that will be preserved online as a community record.
At the library, all three branches will close Wednesday, July 22, for a professional development day. On the events calendar, the library's Summer Eats program continues its free breakfast and lunch service at Brookline Avenue Playground through August 14, with a Matt Heaton family concert tied to the program Tuesday, July 21. A magic show with performer Ed Popielarczyk is set for Monday, July 27.
