Brookline Reopens Renovated Park, Adopts 10-Year Climate Plan
BROOKLINE — The Parks and Open Space Division announced this week that Lotta Bradburn Schick Park has officially reopened to the public after a comprehensive renovation, part of a busy stretch of Town Hall news that also included a one-week delay to the Town Hall roof project and adoption of a new 10-year climate strategy.
TOWN HALL
Lotta Bradburn Schick Park reopened to the public on July 10 following the renovation, the Parks and Open Space Division said. Separately, the Brookline Golf Course has reopened all 18 holes and will host a community event on July 17. The Town Hall roof construction project, previously expected to begin sooner, will now start Monday, July 20; the town said additional guidance on visiting Town Hall during construction is available on its website.
The town also adopted its 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, a 10-year strategy charting a path to net-zero emissions by 2050. Real estate and personal property tax bills, mailed June 30, are due Monday, August 3. The Department of Public Works continues to offer bi-weekly household hazardous and universal waste drop-off at the Brookline Transfer Station on Newton Street.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Public Library of Brookline has a full slate of programming this week. On Thursday, July 16, the library offers "Wishing for Wings," a butterfly-lifecycle program with songs, reading and a wearable-wings craft, alongside "Color & Collage: Creative Unwind Workshop," a low-pressure art session for adults. On Friday, July 17, the Coolidge Corner branch hosts a Japanese-language storytime for children up to age 5, and the Putterham branch offers Gentle Chair Yoga with Keith Beasley. On Saturday, July 18, "Worlds in Words," a creative-writing workshop for tweens ages 10 to 13, runs at the library. On Tuesday, July 21, the library's Summer Eats program features a Matt Heaton family concert at the Brookline Avenue Playground, where free breakfast and lunch continue to be served on weekdays through August 14. All library locations will be closed Wednesday, July 22, for a professional development day.
