The advisory board of the four-town regional public health district — covering Dover, Medfield, Needham, and Sherborn — unanimously approved a proposed reallocation of approximately $52,438 in unspent fiscal year 2026 salary funds to consultant services, supplies, and professional training at its March 24 meeting. The funds accumulated because the regional environmental health agent did not start until November 2025 and the assistant manager position did not begin until late February 2026. The single largest proposed use is doubling the medical director stipend from $5,000 to $10,000, an amount the district director described as equivalent to roughly 40 hours at $250 per hour, with the intent to carry that rate into fiscal year 2027. Medfield Board of Health member Carol Reed pressed for directing funds toward nursing hours or inspectional services rather than communications consulting, while Kay Peterson of Dover urged that a proposed data dashboard be built to compare public health staffing levels across all four towns — "particularly with Medfield, which is really the Cinderella of public health nursing."
