Town Meeting · Meeting of October 27, 2026
Cohasset Town Meeting approved $20.9 million for a new King Street police station and narrowly repealed its plastic water bottle ban. The police station vote, backed 5-0 by the Select Board, cuts the May request by $883,000 and now heads to a December 5 debt exclusion ballot; Capital Budget Chair Susan Franklin estimated a tax impact starting near 59 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. The water bottle repeal passed by hand count, 109-107, reversing a 2024 ban approved 142-37.
A seasonal gas leaf blower restriction failed 109-117. A citizen-petitioned surveillance oversight bylaw was indefinitely postponed after Police Chief Quigley announced the town's four Flock license-plate cameras will be disabled in November. Town Meeting also approved up to $2 million for a Middle High School feasibility study, calling it "not a gamble," according to School Committee member Craig McClellan.
