Conservation · Meeting of August 13, 2026

Needham's Conservation Commission continued a long-pending Chabad Center hearing to September 24, declining to close it before the Planning Board finishes its own review. Engineer Carlos Sculte said the 1195 Central Avenue design now keeps at least two feet of separation from the wetland's 25-foot no-disturb zone while adding fire-department-requested stairs and a wider drive aisle. Abutter engineer Brian Nelson, representing the Bradleys, pressed for confirmation that groundwater mounding "will not extend onto their property." Rabbi Mendy Krinsky argued against further delay, saying "I just feel we're going in circles." The board also continued a Massachusetts Water Resources Authority notice of intent for a 1,250-foot Charles River drainage line, part of the agency's 15-mile tunnel redundancy program, to August 27, and approved a minor modification for a Pleasant Street enforcement case.
