Conservation · Meeting of September 3, 2026
Dedham Conservation Commission approved an emergency sinkhole repair and three other permits at its September 3 meeting. Chair Erik DeAvila led four unanimous 4-0 votes, including ratifying an emergency repair at 270 Bridge Street, where property manager Jeff McComish called the hazard "significant" for people entering and exiting the lot. The board also cleared a certificate of compliance for 49 Maynard Road after Conservation Agent Meredith Confrey noted a grass-mix substitution offset by doubling shrub plantings to roughly 16 to 20.
Confrey separately reported a Westfield Street property owner had been illegally pumping Charles River water for irrigation for possibly two decades before stopping "immediately" after a violation letter, and disclosed a commuter rail vegetation-cutting violation now under review. The commission also announced a $5,000 Massachusetts Cultural Council grant, five times its usual budget, for a springtime Biodiversity Day.
