Dover Declares Level 2 Drought, Limits Outdoor Watering

DOVER — Dover has declared a Level 2 Significant Drought, limiting nonessential outdoor water use to hand-held hoses or watering cans between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m., the town announced this week, as the Board of Selectmen also works with Aquarion Water Company on fixes for discolored water and PFAS contamination.

The town's drought declaration is the most consequential item out of Town Hall this week. Under the Level 2 designation, residents may only use hand-held hoses or watering cans for nonessential outdoor watering, and only outside the 9 a.m.-to-5 p.m. window, according to the town's announcement.

Separately, the Board of Selectmen recently held a Public Information Session with Aquarion Water Company to review options for resolving water quality problems affecting Aquarion customers in Dover, including discolored water and the presence of PFAS "forever chemicals," the town said.

The Department of Public Works also flagged upcoming paving projects set to begin this month, part of the town's ongoing road-maintenance program.

The Town Meeting Review Committee and the Conservation Commission both meet Wednesday, July 22, according to the town calendar.
