Milton schools outline cuts to close a $1,049,000 fiscal 2027 budget gap, with no votes taken. Assistant Superintendent Katie Blake and the superintendent presented reductions to about a dozen positions — including two of six behavior specialists, a director of nursing replaced by a lead-nurse model, and one of two 504 coordinators — while sparing classroom teachers, counselors and intervention specialists. The district's special education reserve started the year near $8,700 against a roughly $3.5 million target; the superintendent called it "time to break the glass and pull the alarm." Officials also proposed restoring a bus route and moving the assistant superintendent to a five-day schedule, funded by $75,000 in new fees and $143,000 in expense cuts.

One committee member proposed saving $700,000 instead of $1 million next year, calling it "a little sugar to help the medicine go down."
