Needham Commission on Disabilities votes to spend $821 on veterans food event and cornhole set

Other Committee · Meeting of May 19, 2026

Needham Commission on Disabilities approves up to $821 to sponsor veterans' Wiener Wednesday events and buy a branded cornhole set. The commission voted unanimously at its May 19 meeting to spend its remaining fiscal year 2026 budget on four weeks of food for the VFW's "Wiener Wednesday" veteran social series, which began the week of the meeting, and on a durable, commission-branded cornhole set to remain as town-owned equipment for future community events. ADA liaison Tatiana said direct vendor payment is required under town finance rules, meaning she will accompany organizers to the restaurant supply depot in person.

Parks and Recreation Director Stacey reported that the Elliott School Playground — approved at Town Meeting for a full ADA-compliant renovation — is set to break ground in July, with poured-in-place rubber surfacing, shade structures, and sensory equipment; Perry Park is next in the queue, with design public input planned. ADA liaison Felix flagged that the building commissioner had applied a narrower accessibility threshold to a 283 Chesna Street bookshop renovation, arguing that the correct calculation uses the tenant's proportional share of the building's assessed value, not the total project cost.
