Council of Economic Advisors · Meeting of June 12, 2026

Needham's Council of Economic Advisors outlined new priorities and detailed funding for an economic development study under new leadership. Chair Jacob Shapiro and Vice Chair Andrew Lyczmanenko, running their first meeting in those roles, laid out a three-part plan to understand, strengthen and grow the town's commercial base. A staff member said the town secured a $50,000 state earmark for the study, which must be spent by June 30, 2027, and is pursuing a separate "Best Practices" grant that could roughly double the funding.

Members also discussed the stalled 629 Highland Avenue project, calling it a site that "is not penciling," and heard that commercial touring activity has slowed after a busy April and May. The Planning Board separately received $125,000 for six related studies at a recent Town Meeting.
