Sharon Sets July 3 Fireworks Celebration at Veterans' Memorial Park
With the July 4th weekend days away, Sharon is lining up a full slate of community events — from a fireworks celebration at Veterans' Memorial Park to a public reading of a landmark abolitionist speech — while state health officials flag the season's first mosquito-borne virus detection in Massachusetts.

Sharon's annual Independence Day Celebration is set for Friday, July 3, at Veterans' Memorial Park, featuring fireworks, children's activities, food trucks, live music, and more. Residents planning to attend should note that this year's event falls on the eve of the holiday rather than the Fourth itself.
Two days later, on Sunday, July 5, the community is invited to a reading of Frederick Douglass' iconic address, "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?" The free event begins at 3 p.m. at the Sharon Historical Society, 16 High St.
State public health officials have also announced the season's first detection of West Nile virus in Massachusetts mosquitoes, with the positive sample coming from Berkshire County. While no local cases have been reported, residents are encouraged to take standard precautions — using insect repellent, eliminating standing water, and avoiding peak mosquito hours at dawn and dusk.

Sharon Public Library will close early — at 2 p.m. — on Friday, July 3, and remain closed all day Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
