Weymouth Advances $65 Million Land Sale For Former Naval Air Station

The long-awaited redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station took a major step forward this week with the completion of a $65 million land sale, while Mayor Robert Molisse urged residents to take precautions during a stretch of dangerous heat.

The Town announced that New England Development and Brookfield Properties have advanced their long-planned redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station through a $65 million land sale, a deal expected to move forward housing, commercial development, infrastructure and open space projects spanning Weymouth, Rockland and Abington.

Mayor Molisse issued a message urging residents to prepare for the upcoming heat, advising people to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity and check on elderly neighbors. Separately, town officials moved to reassure residents that Weymouth's drinking water remains safe after some residents received text alerts about a boil-water order issued for a neighboring community; the Department of Public Works and water officials confirmed no such order applies to Weymouth.

The Town also announced it has begun cyclical inspections of real estate properties, with inspectors going door-to-door to examine both the interior and exterior of homes throughout Weymouth neighborhoods.
