Weymouth Locks In $11.5M for Naval Air Station Water, Sewer Work
WEYMOUTH — Weymouth has locked in an $11.5 million upfront payment from the master developer of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station to fund water and sewer infrastructure upgrades ahead of the site's redevelopment, even as Town Hall pushed out heat-safety guidance and moved to quash rumors about the town's drinking water.

The town has negotiated an upfront payment of $11,551,500 with the Master Developer for the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station property, according to a News Flash release, to fund continued water and sewer infrastructure upgrades needed ahead of the site's redevelopment.
Mayor Molisse urged residents to prepare for the coming heat, asking them to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity and check on elderly neighbors. Separately, the town clarified that Weymouth's drinking water remains safe after some residents received text alerts about a boil-water order; officials confirmed with the Department of Public Works and water officials that no such order applies to Weymouth, and that the alerts concerned a neighboring community.
The town also issued a wildlife alert after a known bobcat den was identified near Hill Street and Grant Street in East Weymouth, noting that attacks on humans are extremely rare but that bobcats may view cats, small dogs and other small domestic animals as potential prey. Preliminary fiscal year 2027 first-quarter tax bills, mailed June 29, are due Monday, August 3, 2026.
