Brookline Adopts 10-Year Climate Action Plan Aimed at Net-Zero by 2050
Brookline has officially adopted its 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, a comprehensive 10-year strategy that charts the town's path to net-zero emissions by 2050, making it one of the most consequential environmental commitments in recent town history.
TOWN HALL
The town announced the adoption of the 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan on Tuesday, June 23. The plan lays out a decade-long framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions across town operations and the broader community, with a stated goal of reaching net-zero by 2050. The announcement builds on Brookline's recent designation as a Climate Leader Community by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, a recognition the town received earlier this year.
Also in effect for World Cup fans: the Select Board has approved a one-hour extension of operating hours for eligible restaurants and bars on designated match days, a temporary measure that began June 22 and allows patrons more time to watch and celebrate games.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Brookline Public Library has a full slate of programs in the coming days. On Saturday, June 27, the Coolidge Corner branch hosts "Worlds in Words," a creative writing workshop for tweens ages 10 to 13, aimed at building writing skills and sparking imagination. The library is also celebrating Pride Month with a button-making drop-in at Coolidge Corner on Monday, June 29, where visitors can create buttons featuring Pride flags and pronoun designs. On Wednesday, July 1, the library closes out Pride Month with a storytime and rainbow craft program for families. Also on June 30, the Putterham branch welcomes author Jennifer Welborn, a former science teacher whose picture book *Dr. Rosie Helps the Animals* draws on real-world veterinary science. All three branches will be closed Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday.
