MBTA Route Changes Hit East Weymouth, Hingham Center Starting Sept. 6

WEYMOUTH — Riders on two MBTA bus routes serving Weymouth face schedule and coverage changes starting Sunday, Sept. 6, when Route 220 drops Hingham Center and Route 222 drops East Weymouth, with both routes shifting to 30-minute service.

TOWN HALL

The Town of Weymouth flagged the coming MBTA adjustments in its News & Announcements feed this week. Beginning Sept. 6, Route 220 will no longer serve Hingham Center and Route 222 will no longer serve East Weymouth; in exchange, both routes will run more frequently, arriving every 30 minutes instead of their current schedules. Riders who rely on either route for East Weymouth or Hingham Center connections should plan alternate stops or transfers ahead of the switch.

SCHOOLS

Weymouth Public Schools opens its 2026-27 year in stages next week. Wednesday, Sept. 2 remains a no-school staff development day. Students in grades 1 through 6 and grade 9 return Thursday, Sept. 3 for an early-release day, the same day kindergarten families attend orientation. Kindergartners along with grades 7-8 and 10-12 begin their first full day of school Friday, Sept. 4. Pre-K students follow on Sept. 8, after the Labor Day holiday closes schools Sept. 7.
