Brookline Adopts 10-Year Climate Plan Targeting Net-Zero by 2050

The town has formally adopted its 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, a comprehensive ten-year strategy charting Brookline's path to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, even as residents endure a second day of an extreme heat emergency running through Saturday.

TOWN HALL Town officials announced adoption of the 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, describing it as a comprehensive strategy that lays out a decade of policy and infrastructure steps meant to get Brookline to net-zero emissions by 2050. The plan is the most substantial piece of town business to land this week, arriving alongside continued efforts to modernize municipal buildings and operations.

Brookline Public Health's heat emergency, declared Wednesday and running from Thursday, August 6 through Saturday, August 8, remains in effect, with cooling centers open to residents around town for a second straight day.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The Public Library of Brookline kicked off the Minuteman Library Crawl on Friday, August 7, giving cardholders six days to visit participating libraries across the Minuteman network. At Coolidge Corner, librarian and origami expert Jingting leads a beginner-friendly paper-folding workshop Saturday, August 8, while an adult crafternoon the same day invites patrons to drop in and work on personal craft projects alongside other crafters. The library's Plant a Seed, Read! summer reading program continues August 13 with a visit from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society's Plantmobile as part of Farm Fresh programming.
