Brookline Adopts Climate Plan Targeting Net-Zero By 2050

Brookline has adopted a Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, a 10-year strategy charting the town's path to net-zero emissions by 2050, the town announced Friday, while a separate court order has reportedly freed up $3 million in scholarship money for Brookline High School students tied to a decades-old will, according to Brookline.News.

The town's biggest announcement of the day was the adoption of its 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, described by Town Hall as a comprehensive 10-year strategy aimed at reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. The plan is now the town's guiding framework for climate policy over the coming decade.

Separately, the Department of Public Works will run a Trash Amnesty Collection for town trash service customers the week of August 31, giving residents a chance to dispose of excess waste outside the normal collection rules. The August edition of the Town Administrator's newsletter also went out this week, rounding up town updates, events, and community resources as summer winds down.

The district's calendar lists a PreK-8 teacher collaboration day for September 4, the week after students return to classrooms for the first day of school on September 3.

The Brookline Public Library is opening a new session of "Worlds in Words," a creative writing workshop for tweens ages 10 to 13 designed to inspire and expand curiosity through writing, running August 29.
