With a heat emergency taking effect Wednesday and running through the July 4 holiday, Brookline residents face a four-day stretch of dangerous temperatures just as many head outdoors to celebrate.

The town declared a heat emergency covering July 1 through July 4, urging residents to take precautions during what officials are calling an extreme heat event. Also on the financial calendar: the town mailed real estate and personal property tax bills on June 30, with payment due Monday, August 3, 2026. Residents who have not yet received a bill should check their mailing address on file with the Assessor's office.

The Brookline Public Library is wrapping up a busy run of Pride Month programming. On Tuesday, June 30, the Coolidge Corner branch hosted author Jennifer Welborn, who read from her STEM picture book *Dr. Rosie Helps the Animals* and led a stuffed animal vet clinic. On Wednesday, July 1, the library hosts a Pride-themed storytime and rainbow craft for families. A reminder that all three library branches — Brookline Village, Coolidge Corner, and Putterham — will be closed Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, for Independence Day.
