Brookline Planning Department Proposes Streamlined Special Permit Process

BROOKLINE — Brookline's planning department proposed a streamlined special permit process for one- and two-family homes and continued its accessory dwelling unit assistance program, according to a newsletter released Wednesday, the same day the MBTA issued an accessibility update for the Beacon Street C-branch stations and Brookline Patch reported a Cambridge glassware shop is opening a second location in town.

The Department of Planning & Community Development's newsletter, released Wednesday, outlines a proposal to make the special permit process more efficient for owners of one- and two-family homes and details continuing assistance for residents pursuing accessory dwelling units. The newsletter also lists upcoming public meeting dates for residents who want to weigh in.

The MBTA posted an update Wednesday on the Beacon Street C-branch station accessibility project, part of ongoing work on the Green Line corridor, according to a town alert.

The town also released its August Town Administrator Newsletter, rounding up town updates, events and community resources as summer draws to a close, per the town website.

Brookline Public Library booked a Balloon Magic Show with Brie's Balloons for Saturday, Aug. 15, in Hunneman Hall at the Brookline Village branch. The show, geared toward children ages 3 to 8, runs 45 minutes and is followed by an hour of balloon twisting, according to the library's event listing.

The library also canceled its Summer Playtime for Babies and Toddlers session originally scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, the library said.
