Commission Requires New Wetlands Permit for Backyard Pool
Conservation · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Norwood conservation board finds backyard pool built too close to protected wetlands. The Conservation Commission voted 5-0 on a positive determination of applicability for an above-ground pool at 154 Plantation Circle, after Conservation Agent Carly said the structure sits roughly 7.5 feet from a delineated wetland, inside the 25-foot buffer set by the town's wetlands bylaw and close enough to void the project's exemption under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act. Applicants Jill and Greg Cataldo, represented by Brittany Mahomes of Doyle & Sons, must now file a full notice of intent and hire a wetlands consultant to GPS-flag the boundary; a waiver would still require a 12.5-foot setback the pool does not meet.
One applicant said of a prior wetland specialist's conflicting survey, "I don't trust her anymore at this point." Separately, the commission voted 5-0 to again request $25,000 from the Community Preservation Committee for its conservation land fund.
