Westwood's FS1 committee previewed the Oct. 26 Special Town Meeting on a $39.98 million fire station appropriation. Chair Ford Spaulding led the session, and Walter Hurley of PMA introduced the update. Presenters said the Finance Committee unanimously recommended Article 1 on Oct. 7 and that new test pits confirmed compacted, poorly draining soils at the Deerfield site.
They said the drainage plan should cut runoff to neighbors but cannot lower groundwater, with the water table about six feet down on the south side. Check-in is at 6 p.m. and babysitting is offered at the high school. The committee approved its Sept. 28 minutes and adjourned.
