Milton Town Meeting approves $1M fire station design

Town Meeting · Meeting of May 11, 2026

Milton Town Meeting approved $1 million for design of an addition and renovation to the Atherton Street fire station, voting 192-6 with two abstentions. Town Administrator Nicholas Milano said the full $16.1 million project could raise the average tax bill by about $130 a year. Members also passed solar energy articles, including a 179-14 vote to let the Select Board lease town hall and fire headquarters roof space for panels, projected to save about $24,000 in year one.

Precinct 7 member Brian Kelly objected that "they're not using real plywood" on the new East Milton station and warned the town was setting a precedent by tapping Community Preservation Act funds for fire stations. A sign bylaw rewrite, presented by Planning Board Chair Meredith Hall, remained under debate with an amendment pending when the recorded meeting ended.
