Naval air station land sale advances $65 million redevelopment plan
The former South Weymouth Naval Air Station redevelopment took a major step forward this week with a $65 million land sale, as New England Development and Brookfield Properties move ahead with plans spanning Weymouth, Rockland and Abington.

The Town of Weymouth announced that New England Development and Brookfield Properties are advancing a long-delayed redevelopment plan for the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station following a $65 million land sale, according to the town's News Flash feed. The project includes housing, commercial development, infrastructure and open space across the three towns.
Mayor Molisse issued a message urging residents to prepare for upcoming heat, advising them to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity and check on elderly neighbors. Town officials also moved to reassure residents that Weymouth's drinking water remains safe after some residents received text alerts about a boil water order affecting a neighboring community; the town confirmed with its Department of Public Works and water officials that no such order applies to Weymouth.
Separately, the town has begun cyclical inspections of real estate parcels, with inspectors visiting neighborhoods door-to-door to examine both interiors and exteriors of properties. Residents with questions or concerns were directed to call 781-682-3677. The town also noted that the Wessagusset Walk was closed from July 2 through July 7 for ongoing safety work, with updates to follow if the reopening schedule changes.
