Norwood Conservation Commission Approves Emergency Water Main Certification for Willard School

NORWOOD — June 17, 2026 — Norwood Conservation Commission approved an emergency certification for a water main installation behind the Willard School and elected a new leadership slate at its June 17 meeting. Mark Ryan, Director of Public Works and Town Engineer, told the commission that the school sits at a dead end in the town's water distribution network, causing chlorine residuals to fall to unacceptable levels and requiring staff to flush mains in that area multiple times weekly from May to October. The commission unanimously certified 150 linear feet of eight-inch pipe to be installed by an existing town contractor within a 30-day window, with a full Notice of Intent covering the remaining roughly 550 feet due July 8. The commission also unanimously approved an order of conditions for an in-ground saltwater pool at 56-64 Nickel Street and unanimously approved an amended order for electrical and fire water upgrades on the Moderna Therapeutics campus at 1 Moderna Way. A notice of violation at 69 Boston Providence Highway involving bare-soil erosion along Purgatory Brook and unimplemented stormwater conditions from permits dating to 2002 was continued to July 8 to allow the conservation agent to draft a formal enforcement order. Catherine Woodberg was elected Chair, Kinsley Mustafa Vice Chair, and Mark Mandigo Treasurer, filling all three officer positions vacated by the resignation of the former chair.
