School Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026

WEYMOUTH — The Weymouth School Committee voted 5-1 to reject a proposed advisory committee on school pickup and drop-off safety. Member Kelly McClean brought the motion after describing a wrong-way school bus at Pingree School and a September 21 incident in which her child's foot was run over in the parking lot, saying she would "rather be more proactive than reactive." Member Cynthia Lyons and others argued the district's existing Health and Safety Committee already covers the issue, with Lyons asking "why would we create another subcommittee?" The committee separately approved a $611,212.89 warrant 6-0 and adopted policy ACL, the Protect Act, 6-0, governing staff interactions with civil immigration enforcement. Superintendent Melanie Curtin also thanked state Representative Jamie Murphy for a $500,000 career and technical education earmark this year, which she said brings his cumulative district CTE funding past $1 million in recent years.
