Plainville boards weigh World Cup RV housing plan for Washington Street site

PLAINVILLE — March 12, 2026 — Plainville boards take no position but hear full pitch for 191-unit World Cup RV housing site. At a joint informational session March 12, the Select Board and other town boards heard a revised proposal from the owner of the Hatch Materials property at 80-82 Washington Street to convert the site into temporary RV-based lodging for FIFA World Cup visitors in June and July, with 191 units capable of sleeping up to nine people each and 66 additional parking spaces. A shuttle to Gillette Stadium is part of the plan, and round-the-clock security would monitor occupancy. Town officials outlined a potential host community agreement covering fee payments, water and sewer costs, and public safety staffing, but the applicant acknowledged there is "no backup plan" if a temporary sewer connection cannot be secured — leaving that permit as the project's critical obstacle.
