Plainville Select Board Approves 8 Percent Water and Sewer Rate Hikes for FY27

PLAINVILLE — June 24, 2026 — Plainville Select Board unanimously approves 8 percent water and sewer rate increases for fiscal year 2027. The board voted without dissent at its June 24 meeting to adopt a flat 8 percent increase across all water consumption tiers, leaving the existing $60-per-quarter capital charge unchanged, and a matching 8 percent increase in sewer rates, which are calculated entirely on the basis of water use. Financial analysis prepared by town staff member Ms. Ebert projected the combined increases would generate roughly $200,000 in additional annual revenue from each utility, with water revenue estimated at approximately $260,000 above the FY27 budget and sewer at approximately $200,000 above budget. A second water option that would have shielded the lowest-volume users — described during the presentation as "elderly couples living alone" already burdened by the fixed capital charge — from the full increase was presented but not adopted. The capital charge alone currently generates roughly $900,000 of the water system's approximately $2 million in annual revenue.
