School Committee · Meeting of October 14, 2026
Milton's School Committee reviewed a first-draft fiscal 2028 budget projecting 4.88 percent growth, the lowest escalation in several years. Director of Business and Finance James told the committee salaries would total $65,305,129, 82 percent of a roughly $79.3 million budget, with general expenses at $13,996,665. A September 2026 nor'easter damaged a music classroom and science equipment after roof inspections in April and September both failed, prompting officials to push for a restored facilities revolving account.
Chair Mark cautioned against framing scenarios around staff position counts too early, saying last year that approach "started raising anxiety... within the community." No votes were taken; the committee set meetings for Oct. 27, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 to refine the model and meet with the Select Board Finance Committee.
