Select Board Directs Public Safety Panel to Focus Solely on King Street

Cohasset Select Board votes unanimously to focus public safety building plans solely on 135 King Street. The board directed the Public Safety Facilities Committee, 5-0, to abandon further work on Elm Street after architect Paula Claridge of HKT Architects showed the 1960s-era site can hold at most 17,488 square feet against a 30,108-square-foot combined need for police and fire. Chair David Farrag pegged full project costs at $6 million to $7 million, with fire relocation alone estimated at $3.8 million to $4.5 million.

The board separately heard that the town's water system continues to exceed limits for trihalomethanes, with Water Vice Chair Chris Pratt outlining plans for an $8 million lagoon project and a $2 million treatment-plant pilot study, both funded through water rates. The board also approved eight board and committee appointments and increased two capital stabilization funds by 2.5 percent each, all 5-0.
