Select Board Unanimously Approves Plainville Lions Club Circus for July

PLAINVILLE — June 9, 2026 — Plainville Select Board approves Lions Club circus at Field of Dreams for July 8 and 9. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to grant a special events application to the Plainville Lions Club for a two-day, midweek circus at Field of Dreams park, a change from the weekend scheduling that drew fewer than 300 attendees per show last year. Park Director John Tyner presented a revised site plan developed with Building Inspector Jim Merritt that relocates the circus tent to the right-side driveway lot, adding roughly 1,000 square feet over the 2025 footprint and opening approximately 100 total parking spaces, 20 percent of which will be ADA-designated. The fire department approved the event and will post a fire officer on site. Police staffing costs remain an open question: one board member said Chief Skinner can likely cover the July 8 shows without extra cost but will need to book a paid detail officer for July 9, when staffing competition from World Cup events is expected to be at its peak.
