Sharon Schedules Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Saturday, Fireworks July 3
Two upcoming community events are anchoring Sharon's end-of-June calendar: a Household Hazardous Waste Day this Saturday and the annual Independence Day celebration next week at Veterans' Memorial Park.
TOWN HALL
Residents have a chance to safely dispose of household chemicals this Saturday, June 27, when the town holds its Household Hazardous Waste Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Public Works, 217R South Main St. The event is a once-a-year opportunity to drop off paint, cleaning products, pesticides, and other hazardous materials that should not go in the trash or recycling.
Looking ahead to the holiday week, the town has confirmed that the annual Sharon Independence Day Celebration will take place Friday, July 3, at Veterans' Memorial Park. The event features fireworks, children's activities, food trucks, live music, and more. Residents planning to attend should note that Sharon Public Library will close at 2 p.m. that same day and remain closed Saturday, July 4, in observance of the holiday.
On the public health front, state officials have announced that West Nile virus was detected in mosquitoes in Massachusetts for the first time this season, with the initial sample found in Berkshire County. While no local detection has been reported in Sharon, residents are encouraged to take standard precautions — eliminating standing water and using insect repellent during peak mosquito hours.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Sharon Public Library is currently operating with limited parking while solar panel installation proceeds on the roof. Patrons are advised to plan accordingly when visiting 1 School Street. The library's regular summer hours remain in effect through the week.
Tweens and teens can also take part in the library's ongoing Summer 2026 Book Buff Bingo program, and Sharon Schools summer reading resources are available through the library's website.
