Storms Flood Highways, Prompt Brookline to Close Dog Fields

Heavy overnight storms dumped up to 2 inches of rain per hour across Massachusetts into Monday, flooding highways statewide and prompting Brookline to shut all of its green dog fields through Tuesday because of wet conditions.

TOWN HALL

The town closed all green dog fields Monday and Tuesday, August 3 and 4, citing wet field conditions after the round of heavy regional rain. Monday, August 3, was also the deadline for real estate and personal property tax bills the town mailed out in June. Separately, the town's News Flash feed posted a new accessibility update tied to the MBTA's Beacon Street C branch station project, the latest notice in an ongoing string of updates on that work.

SCHOOLS

Brookline Public Schools' calendar lists Thursday, September 3, as the first day of classes for the new school year. The district's calendar also shows an early dismissal for kindergarten through eighth grade the following day, September 4, for PreK-8 teacher collaboration time.

The Brookline Public Library canceled Tuesday's Tech Tuesday drop-in help session at Coolidge Corner, according to the library's calendar.
