Brookline Town Meeting voted 217-24-5 to create an override stabilization fund holding part of the $23.25 million property tax override voters approved in May. Select Board member Michael Rubenstein said the structure "allowed us to keep the ballot number below $25 million." Advisory Committee Chair Dennis Dowdy reported his committee split 12-11 with one abstention on the underlying funding approach before recommending the fund. Superintendent Bella Wong told members the $149,801,900 fiscal 2027 school budget finally resolves a $1.9 million structural deficit carried for years.
Town meeting also approved bonding measures totaling more than $12 million for water, sewer, stormwater and building work, and adjourned 202-33-5 without finishing the operating budget after Precinct 4 member Donna O'Neill Sr. raised objections over $31,000 spent on outside counsel investigating town meeting members, calling it "baseless, expensive, terrifying."
