Finance Committee · Meeting of August 24, 2026

Milton's Warrant Committee recommended a zoning change locking in a 15 percent affordable-housing requirement, while still lacking a price for the proposed Laboure College purchase. Members unanimously backed the MBTA Communities Act bylaw amendment after seconder Elaine Craighead and presenter Lindsay Sands confirmed the state had approved the town's economic feasibility study. School Committee Chair Mark Loring told the committee no formal vote has endorsed converting Laboure into a pre-K/kindergarten school, warning "the one place where it's really not providing any support is at Pierce." Separately, the committee pressed presenter Ron Sia on a $300,000 Community Preservation Act request toward a $1.45 million Tucker Elementary playground renovation, which depends partly on an uncommitted $450,000 federal grant.

Member Jay Funlin questioned the funding timeline directly: "I guess I really want to know a little bit more solidly, where is this money coming from." The committee set a September 1 meeting with Select Board Chair Daley, hoping for a Laboure purchase price before the warrant goes to print.
