Weymouth Zoning Board Approves Porch Variance, Two Special Permits at July Meeting
WEYMOUTH — July 8, 2026 — Weymouth's Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved a variance and two special permits at its July 8 meeting, advancing cases at 45 Intervale Road, 8 Driftway, and 11 Gibbons Street. Homeowner Keith Collings received a front-yard setback variance — reduced from the required 18 feet to 16.5 feet — to reconstruct a deteriorating front porch on his 1913 home, after revising his plans downward from a larger initial request. Attorney William Eads of DTM Law in Hingham won approval for a special permit transferring approximately 1,794 square feet from Dorothy Newell's 8 Driftway lot to her son Herbert Newell's abutting 4 Driftway parcel, a change that will bring the smaller lot from 5,790 to 7,526 square feet with no structural changes. Homeowners Caitlin and Michael MacDonald were approved for a three-car attached garage at 11 Gibbons Street with a 7-foot side setback where 10 feet is required, subject to conditions requiring any future driveway to use permeable materials, capping structure height at 35 feet, and prohibiting conversion of the above-garage great room into a separate dwelling unit — conditions that run with the property and bind future owners.
