Wrentham Select Board Approves Fireworks Permit, Adopts Recycling Policy at May Meeting

WRENTHAM — May 20, 2026 — Wrentham Select Board hears on-budget report for $25.5 million DPW building and approves Lake Pearl fireworks permit. The board, chaired by Chris Gallo, met remotely Tuesday and received an update from owner's project manager Luke Capone of CMS showing the new public works facility on Taunton Street has spent $4.5 million — 17 percent of budget — through April with only $72,000 of the $1.6 million contingency used; steel is rising and the building is expected to be enclosed by August for an early-2027 completion. The board also heard a presentation on the nearly $3 million Rice Complex Improvement Project from CHA Consulting's Michael Moonen and Recreation Director Ray Palmer, which heads to the June 1 annual town meeting. Tri-County School Committee representative John General called the state's new vocational school lottery system "extremely flawed," noting that 36 Wrentham applicants competed for 24 seats in the incoming class, and urged residents to sign a petition to abolish the lottery. The board voted 5-0 to adopt a revised sustainable purchasing policy required to maintain the town's eligibility for approximately $3,700 in annual state recycling grants.
