Advisory panel leans toward dropping mailed reports
Advisory Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Wellesley's Advisory Committee leans 13-1 toward scrapping mailed Town Meeting reports. Secretary Doug Wilkins presented draft bylaw language amending Section 11.8, citing unreliable U.S. Mail delivery of the nearly 300-page report, which must ship as priority mail and was misrouted to Springfield last year.
Operations Administrator Alissa Keene said "we cannot mail it through the postage meter." In non-binding straw polls, members also backed letting the Select Board drop its own mail-on-request provision, 10-3, and rejected switching to an opt-in paper-copy system, 8-5, and a 2027 sunset clause, 9-3. Member Penny Rossano cautioned against moving too fast, saying "I really don't want to miss the people who just want a paper copy coming into their mailbox." Formal motion language is expected for a vote the following week, ahead of the Select Board's submission deadline for the Fall 2026 Special Town Meeting warrant.
