Developers finalize $65 million land sale at former Naval Air Station
The long-awaited redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station took a major step forward this week as New England Development and Brookfield Properties finalized a $65 million land sale to advance housing, commercial development, infrastructure and open space plans across Weymouth, Rockland and Abington.
TOWN HALL
Mayor Robert Molisse issued a public health advisory urging residents to prepare for the upcoming heat wave, asking neighbors to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity and check on elderly residents in the coming days.
The town has begun a cycle of parcel and property inspections, with inspectors going door-to-door throughout neighborhoods to examine both the interior and exterior of properties. Residents with questions or concerns about the inspections are asked to call 781-682-3677.
Separately, the town announced the Wessagusset Walk closure that ran from Thursday, July 2 through Tuesday, July 7 for ongoing safety work has concluded, with officials saying updates will follow if the reopening schedule changes. The town also flagged a regional planning effort, inviting residents to weigh in on a Boston Region MPO study identifying gaps in walking and biking infrastructure.
SCHOOLS
Weymouth Public Schools reminded families that the district office is operating on summer hours, and posted its summer reading lists with grade-level assignments and suggested titles for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The district's next School Committee meeting is scheduled for August 20 at Weymouth Town Hall.

The town's community calendar highlights Food Truck Friday returning to Weymouth on July 10, with another installment set for July 17. The Weymouth Farmers Market is scheduled for July 15.
