Millis Select Board Accepts $5,600 Animal Rescue Donation, Approves Outdoor Dining

MILLIS — June 1, 2026 — Millis Select Board accepts $5,618 animal rescue donation and reviews ambitious FY28 goals. The three-member board — Chair Craig Schultz, Vice Chair Ellen Rosenfeld, and Clerk Jim McKay — unanimously accepted two gifts from Millis High School senior Nora Scannell: a $5,168 large animal rescue lift and glide for the fire and animal control departments and a $450.70 donation to the Stray Animal Fund. The board also approved outdoor dining for Arrigna Irish Pub and Coal Fire Kitchen at 36 Milliston Road — six four-top tables and one two-top, 26 seats maximum — with Schultz recused as landlord. A two-hour goals session covered a proposed charter commission to be elected in May 2027 that could lead to a five-member Select Board by 2030, a staged affordable housing RFP process resuming after summer, and a strategy of using excess free cash to cover a roughly $350,000 annual Tri-County Regional Vocational School construction obligation that Town Administrator Mike Kaczynski warned could otherwise require cutting the equivalent of two teachers or a police officer as early as FY30.
