Millis Select Board Pulls Housing Land Transfer From May Ballot, Delays to November

MILLIS — April 6, 2026 — Millis Select Board unanimously removes affordable housing land transfer from May town meeting warrant, pushing vote to at least November. The board voted to pull Article 12, which would have designated either the town-owned Braun property or Cassidy Field for a roughly 45-unit Millis Housing Authority senior and disabled affordable housing development, after more than two dozen residents raised concerns about sewer capacity, wetlands, transparency, and site selection at the April 6 meeting. The Millis Housing Authority had itself written to the board requesting the delay to allow more community input; the Housing Authority is hosting public meetings April 9 at the Millis Public Library at 6 p.m. and April 15 at 310 Exchange Street at 10 a.m. In other action, the board approved a $48 million fiscal year 2027 budget framework at a 3.5 percent increase, appropriated $1,168,158.69 in PFAS class action settlement funds for remediation capital projects, authorized a construction manager at risk contract with Fontaine Brothers Inc. of Springfield for up to $216,000 in pre-construction services on the middle-high school project, and ratified the appointment of Tom Welch as principal assessor to succeed the retiring Terry Gonzales.
