Milton Planning Board sets committee assignments and outlines zoning priorities for year ahead

Planning Board · Meeting of May 14, 2026

Milton Planning Board unanimously fills all committee seats and begins mapping a zoning work plan. At the May 14 meeting, the board voted 5-0 to confirm annual appointments: Member Hal Munger takes the Community Preservation Committee seat from Secretary Cheryl Tougias; Member Sean Fahy joins the Capital Improvement Planning Committee, filling a vacancy left by Jim Davis; Member Margaret Oldfield continues on the Climate Action Planning Committee and the Budget Coordination Committee; Chair Meredith Hall remains on the Open Space and Recreation Planning Committee; and Hall and Tougias together join the Housing Production Plan Advisory Committee, which Director of Planning and Community Development Liz Manning said must complete its work by mid-fall. The board also debated a lengthy zoning priorities list, identifying a cleanup of MBTA affordability language and a public conversation on short-term rental regulation as the most immediate tasks, while flagging floor-area-ratio zoning, preexisting nonconforming business protections, and zoning recodification — targeted no earlier than spring 2027 — as longer-range work.

The board closed with a review of a MassWorks streetscape grant for East Milton Square, where a $35,000 public outreach component has been allocated but members pressed staff to confirm the listening session happens before final design is complete.
