Milton School Committee Unanimously Approves $75.6 Million FY27 Budget

MILTON — March 16, 2026 — Milton School Committee approves $75.6 million FY27 budget and restores nursing director cut. The committee voted 6-0 Monday to adopt the fiscal year 2027 budget at $75,613,973, reversing a proposed elimination of the director of nursing position after sustained community feedback submitted through public meetings and emails. Superintendent John Phelan said the district would also absorb the potential loss of roughly $135,000 in federal Title I funding — which supports a math intervention teacher and tutoring at Tucker school — internally if the funds do not materialize, keeping Tucker's services "whole." The committee simultaneously approved a fee package projected to generate $78,000 in new revenue, including a $40 per-student transportation increase and a 10 percent hike to building-use fees for commercial renters, effective July 1. Member Nathan Rinard cautioned that restoring the nursing director "comes at a cost" requiring internal offsets, and flagged that the departure of Business Manager Katie Conlon adds transition risk heading into what members described as likely another tight budget year.
