Milton School Committee Unanimously Ratifies Three-Year MEA Teachers Contract

MILTON — June 25, 2026 — Milton School Committee ratifies three-year teachers contract and launches bias incident working group. The committee voted unanimously 6-0 Thursday to ratify a collective bargaining agreement with the Milton Educators Association Unit A covering September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2029, following a brief executive session. Superintendent John Phelan then presented a detailed plan for a newly formed stakeholder working group charged with creating the district's first codified hate and bias incident response protocol, acknowledging that no such protocol exists consistently in any of the six school handbooks — a gap exposed by an incident at Tucker Elementary School several weeks ago. The working group, which includes two student representatives and parents from five schools, held its first meeting June 23 and is expected to deliver a draft protocol to Phelan by October, with handbook updates targeted for December and school committee policy review in January or February 2027. The committee reached consensus that a member of the policy subcommittee will join the working group as a liaison before its next meeting on August 27. In a separate 6-0 vote, the committee approved a scope of work to solicit quotes from superintendent search firms, aiming to select a firm by the end of July.
