Needham Finance Committee Backs $80,000 Transfer for Farmer Building Tenant Relocation
NEEDHAM — March 18, 2026 — Needham Finance Committee unanimously approves $80,000 reserve fund transfer for Farmer Building tenant relocation. The committee voted 8-0 Wednesday to approve the second reserve fund transfer for the town's Farmer Building relocation reimbursement program, which offers displaced tenants up to $10,000 each. Finance Director Dave reported that six of 28 units have vacated so far, with three more confirmed departures pending, and that average reimbursements have run $4,819 per household. The action brings total reserve fund appropriations for the program to $130,000, with an additional $200,000 article planned for the special town meeting — a total of $330,000 against a $280,000 program cap, with the overage designed as a cash-flow buffer. The committee also voted unanimously to recommend a $346,718 appropriation to the Capital Facility Fund, a $368,482 passthrough appropriation to Needham's community access television station from cable franchise fees, a $50,000 demolition of a long-shuttered Riverside Park fieldhouse, and an $8,403 payment of two prior-year unpaid bills — one for special education transportation and one for a stray animal boarding invoice. The panel revised its recommended operating budget total to $247,093,249, reflecting a $23,113 reduction in the Minuteman Regional assessment.
