Norfolk Library Sets Dates for Annual Book Sale

NORFOLK — The Norfolk Library has set dates for its Annual Book Sale, running Saturday, Aug. 29, through Monday, Aug. 31, with free books available on the sale's final two days. Organizers say they are in the "homestretch" of sorting thousands of donated books and are calling for volunteers to help staff the three-day event.

The sale opens Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., continues Sunday, Aug. 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. with all books under the tent free after 3 p.m., and wraps Monday, Aug. 31, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with free books all day. The library is asking residents who want to donate books to hold onto them until after Labor Day so this year's sale isn't disrupted, with donations for the 2027 sale to be scheduled by calling the library. The library is also recruiting volunteers to help run the event.

Separately, the library's Book Group has opened in-person registration for its Thursday, Sept. 17, session on Cees Nooteboom's 1991 novella "The Following Story," which won the 1993 European Literary Prize. The hybrid discussion runs 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the library's Conference Room, which seats 10 to 12 people and is reached via a short spiral staircase. In-person spots are limited and residents who register but can't attend are asked to call the library so the seat can go to someone else. Mark, who coordinates the group, is offering an online option for those who'd rather join remotely.
