School Committee OKs Three Out-of-State Field Trips
School Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026
Walpole School Committee approves Quebec, Sicily and Rhode Island field trips in a single sitting. Members voted 5-0 to send Walpole Middle School eighth graders to Quebec City, Canada, for $890 to $975 per student, and Fisher School kindergartners to Adams Farm in Cumberland, Rhode Island, before unanimously approving a Walpole High School trip to Sicily through the Padilla Institute. The committee also appointed Pete O'Farrell to the Walpole Media TV Committee, 5-0.
Elementary and middle school principals reported combined enrollment of 2,596 students and said their buildings are effectively at capacity. A new "Welcome and Engagement Center," staffed by Jill Kimball, opened at the high school to support newly enrolling families. The district also outlined a new rule confining electric bikes to pedal mode on school grounds, after a member noted "that did not jump out at me" from the district newsletter.
Districtwide enrollment stands at 3,693 students, still fluid ahead of an October 1 state reporting deadline.
