School Committee Tables Digital Packet Plan
School Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Stoughton School Committee tables digital-packet plan over legal-risk warnings. Member Karen Powers argued switching from printed meeting packets could violate the Open Meeting Law and the Americans with Disabilities Act, calling the $70-per-meeting savings "poorly conceived" next to a $600,000 Collins Center consulting contract paid upfront. The motion to table passed 4-0-1.
The committee also reappointed Dr. Michael Klein as school physician, 4-0-1, and voted 5-0 to finalize FY27 priorities expanding AP, Early College and JROTC access. Superintendent Juliette Miller disclosed that restoring kindergarten paraprofessionals districtwide would cost $438,512, up from $378,512 last year, after 45 positions were cut amid a deficit exceeding $3 million.
Facilities Director Dennis Rego put the middle school roof's replacement cost at $8 million versus $2.3 million to restore it.
