Stoughton School Committee OKs Miller's FY27 goals
School Committee · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Stoughton School Committee approves Miller's FY27 budget-transparency goals, 4-0, as a packet-digitizing plan collapses. Vice Chair Jillian DiStefano presided as acting chair in Chris Shannon's apparent absence. Member Karen Powers blocked a push to make digital meeting packets the default, warning it could violate the state's open meeting law and disability-access rules since she lacks home computer access, calling the plan "pennywise and pound-foolish" against $3,000 budgeted for member conferences; no motion was offered.
The committee also voted 3-0-1 to appoint Dr. Jenn Sears to the Redistricting Committee, replacing Powers. A budget memo showed unemployment insurance spending hit $105,836.96 through August against a $150,000 line item, prompting a request to the Finance Committee for a roughly $54,000 transfer.
Principals Katrina Crowley and Ryan Augusta presented school improvement plans; Powers told Augusta "our students are smart and they deserve better" over low AP participation.
